THLG - The Heavy Lift Group in 19th May 2007 has proudly celebrated the 20th anniversary of its founding.
The global association of independent middle size heavy transport and project logistics operators was established upon initiative of the German and English entrepreneurs Mr. Rolf D. Riedl and Mr. Douglas R. Hird accompanied by eight colleagues from seven Western European countries under the heading EHLG -European Heavy Lift Group as a small "European Community in the heavy transport market".
From its beginning the association aimed for a close cooperation of independent heavy lift forwarders, crane and transport operators and assembling specialists, strengthening their technical and operational capabilities in international operations and to enable them to offer multimodal package solutions to their clients in heavy industries for integrated operations up to foundations at final destination.
The circle of membership in the early days of the EHLG encompassed Great Britain, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Austria and Benelux but gradually grew, now penetrating almost all continents, with members in Russia, Turkey, China, India, Kazakhstan, Middle East, Far East, USA, Canada, Argentina and Chile.
With their expertise and local reputation each of the members of this outstanding union is able to offer qualified services and integrated package solutions for transport chains and logistic operations including all additional engineering services for crane operation, assembling and des-assembling, packaging and other capabilities in world-wide context. Respecting the global representation of membership the union of heavy lift and transport specialists a few years ago decided to rename into THLG - The Heavy Lift Group. Applications from all over the world steadily reach the membership development department. Each application is given deep scrutiny, as selective criteria guarantee membership of companies with high profile regarding to expertise, financial stability, qualified service ability and reputation within their regional markets.
On two meetings a year at varying locations within Europe and abroad the THLG members exchange experiences, listen to lectures of specific interest held by own members or guest speakers or giving expert opinion on the presentation of applicants for new membership. Remarkably, all of the founding members are still contributing to the welfare and growth of the THLG. Following the two decades of the group from their foundation in May 1987 in the Westphalia industrial city of Hagen, the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the THLG was held in 19th May 2007 in Düsseldorf with the presence of over twenty members / forty delegates and twenty guests.
During the conference four applicants from, respectively, France, England, Italy and Kuwait, were voted favourably and the Group now accounts for thirty-seven members worldwide!
Conference was closed Sunday morning with an internal Golf Tournament, sponsored by Mr. Suhail Shaikh from SAHIL FREIGHT EXPRESS, Mumbai. The prize of US $1000 was conveyed to Indian charity organizations helping the children.
