On the 9th of November 2006 Allelys Heavy Haulage Ltd moved the largest casting ever to be made in the UK and 2nd largest in the world at dimension of 9.7m x 6.6m x 2.5m 350 tons.
The casting was moved on 22 lines of THP/ST Goldhofer axles with 3 ballast tractors for motive power. Due to the weight of this casting it was necessary for Allelys to manufacture a frame to spread the weight onto the trailer. The frame had to be manufactured to carry the weight but be as light as possible because of the bridge capacity over the river Don.
On arrival at Davy Markham the casting have be stooled of to enable the trailer to be changed for a 16 line THP/ST trailer. This was because the access into Davy Markham was exceptionally tight and the 16 axle trailer would have had axle weights to high to travel over the river bridge. Sheffield Forgemasters manufactured the casting and it was transported to Davy Markham for machining. It will require moving back to Sheffield Forgemasters for stress relieving and then returning to Davy Markham for final machining ready for onward shipment to the customer.
